Bread Of Life
"Bread corn is bruised; because he will not ever be threshing it, nor break it with the wheel of his cart, nor bruise it with his horsemen." (Isaiah 28:28)
Isaiah wrote that bread corn is bruised. Jesus, the bread of life, likewise had to be bruised to become that bread for us. Isaiah said of Him, "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed" (Isaiah 53:5).
This scripture invites us to picture wheat crushed into flour beneath a cart’s stone wheel, perhaps pulled by horsemen. I wonder if Isaiah sat on a street embankment early one morning, watching such a scene when God revealed that a heavenly sacrifice in human form would one day be crushed for humanity. Perhaps, with tears streaming down his cheeks, he declared that this sacrifice would happen only once and never need to be repeated. This Messiah would have no control over how He was abused, yet He would willingly accept the sacrifice for you and me.
When life’s pressures weigh on you, remember that Jesus understands how you feel. Like Jesus, ultimately your brokenness will turn you into bread that helps nourish others.
